I have always enjoyed and gained endless hours of pleasure from the “great outdoors” although, one of my biggest challenges (apart from finding the time to fit everything into a hectic schedule) is that several of the activities I enjoy need to be carried out at opposite ends of the country. As a keen surfer, I would choose to head to the Gower Peninsula - http://www.enjoygower.com/index.cfm which offers some of the countries best beaches or the obvious surfing mecca of Cornwall. BUT on the other hand, another passion is to go hiking for the weekend with “the lads” to Snowdonia - http://www.visitsnowdonia.info/ ……..so the big question arises around how can you merge or combine these great passions?
Well, I am very fortunate that my very great friend Mark Welsby (who I must acknowledge for supplying this information) is a landscape architect and drew my attention to the fact that a hugely innovative organisation called Planit-IE are looking to develop the UK and possibly the worlds first surf lake. If successful it will be able to generate consistent six-foot waves using Wavegarden technology and will be known as Surf Snowdonia. If planning is granted it could be in action as soon as next year!
